In 2015, I had the great opportunity to cruise around the Mediterranean Sea and visit many ports of call. While in Italy, we stopped at Portofino and I jumped on the opportunity to visit Cinque Terre. Taking a car service, I was dropped off in the village of Portovenere and took the ferry to Monterosso. It was one of the most amazing trips in my life.

Cinque Terre is a string of historical seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline. In each of the 5 towns, colorful houses and ancient vineyards cling to steep terraces, fishing boats float in the harbors and the restaurants turnout seafood specialties along with the  region’s famous pesto sauce. Enjoy the photo journey.

Here is the map of Cinque. The trip I took started in the marina. We got our ferry ticket and we were off. Not really knowing what to expect.

Manarola is first village the ferry stopped at. The variation of house colors results because fishermen, doing their jobs just offshore, wanted to be able to distinguish their houses. Most of the families in the five villages made money by catching fish and selling them in the small port villages. Fish, pasta and pesto were their main meals.

This is the village of Vernazza. It is the best village to stop, eat and enjoy the day. The shopping is great and the people are very friendly.

The village is a myriad of color that makes you want to stay longer and explore. Or, in my case, come back.

This is the view from the ferry as we pull into Monterosso.

Here is the place to go swimming in the Med and enjoy a cocktail under an umbrella.

Here where it started and ended, Portofino. It is a beautiful town with amazing architecture, and beautiful vistas. I will definitely come back and spend time here.
